Community Guidelines

Welcome to Rentam-gh! We’re building a platform where Ghanaians can turn things they own into extra income, and get access to things they need without buying them outright. These guidelines keep things safe, fair, and friendly for everyone — Listers and Renters alike.

This is the plain-language version. The full legal Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy still apply — this page just explains, in everyday language, what we expect from you.

1. Be Honest

• List it like it is. Use real, recent photos. Describe the item’s actual condition — scratches, missing parts, wear and tear, all of it. Surprises lead to disputes, and disputes are no fun for anyone.
• Verify yourself properly. Your Ghana Card details should be your own and accurate. This keeps everyone on the platform safer.
• Don’t fake reviews or bookings. No reviewing your own listings, no fake accounts, no gaming the system.

2. Treat People with Respect

• No harassment, threats, insults, or discriminatory language — in listings, chat, or reviews.
• No spam or unsolicited promotion in chat.
• Disagreements happen. Handle them like adults — calmly, and through the app’s chat or dispute tools, not with threats or intimidation.

3. Take Care of What Isn’t Yours

If you’re renting an item (Renter):

• Use it only for what it’s meant for.
• Return it on time and in the condition you received it — normal wear is fine, damage from misuse isn’t.
• If something breaks, gets lost, or gets stolen while it’s with you, tell the Lister and reach out to us immediately — don’t wait, don’t hide it. Honesty here goes a long way, including in how a dispute gets resolved.

If you’re renting out an item (Lister):

• Make sure it’s clean, functional, and safe before handover.
• Don’t rent out anything broken, unsafe, or misrepresented.
• Be reasonable and responsive if a Renter reaches out about an issue.

4. Meet Smart

• Agree on pickup/drop-off details clearly through the in-app chat — time, place, and who’s responsible for delivery if that’s part of the deal.
• Where possible, meet in a public place or somewhere you both feel safe, especially the first time you’re dealing with someone.
• Inspect the item together at handover and at return. Snap a few photos or a quick video. It takes two minutes and can save you a headache later if there’s ever a disagreement.

5. Keep Payments on the Platform

• All payments should go through the app — not cash-in-hand, not a personal Mobile Money transfer arranged outside the app.
• This isn’t just about our fees — it’s what makes our security deposit protection and dispute support possible in the first place. If something goes wrong on an off-platform deal, we won’t be able to help.

6. What You Can’t List

Keep it to things that are genuinely rentable and legal. Not allowed:

• Weapons, ammunition, or anything explosive
• Illegal drugs or related items
• Anything you don’t actually have the right to rent out (borrowed items, disputed ownership, etc.)
• Counterfeit goods
• Anything requiring a special license you don’t hold (certain vehicles, medical devices, etc.)

If you’re not sure whether something’s allowed, ask us before you list it.

7. Use Chat for Its Purpose

The in-app chat is there to help you coordinate a rental — pickup times, questions about the item, working out details. Please don’t use it to:

• Harass or pressure another user
• Push a deal off-platform
• Share content unrelated to your transaction

We may review chat messages if a dispute is reported, to help sort things out fairly.

8. If Something Goes Wrong

• Try to sort it out directly with the other user first — most issues are simple misunderstandings.
• If you can’t agree, open a dispute in the app. Send us your evidence: photos, chat history, receipts, a police report if it’s theft.
• For theft, report it to the police first, then let us know — we’ll need that report to help.
• We’ll do our best to help both sides reach a fair outcome, but for serious cases (theft, real financial loss), you always have the right to pursue this through the police or the courts too.

9. What Happens If You Break These Guidelines

Depending on how serious it is, we may:

• Send you a warning
• Temporarily suspend your account
• Permanently remove your account from the platform
• Report you to the relevant authorities, where the law requires it (e.g. fraud, theft)

We try to be fair and give people a chance to explain, but repeated or serious violations — especially fraud, theft, or harassment — can lead to an immediate and permanent ban.
